Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in New York, where he is attending the 81st UN General Assembly, that Iran’s primary objective in the international arena is to defend the rights and interests of its people.
Speaking to representatives of the Iranian media, Araghchi described the UN podium as the most important platform for conveying this objective to the international community.
Palestine and regional crises
Araghchi said some European countries had remained silent not only in the face of the current situation but also in the face of crimes against Palestine, Gaza, Lebanon and Iran.
Arguing that the UN had failed to fulfill its responsibility to safeguard international peace, Araghchi said some countries regarded all their actions as lawful and disregarded international law.
Call to restore trust in the UN
Araghchi said trust in the United Nations needed to be rebuilt and called for an examination of the reasons behind the loss of trust and the ways it could be restored.
Araghchi also said they would hold several meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. He said his visit was taking place amid the war that he said the United States and Israel had launched against Iran.
