Iran Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned the US during a meeting in Tehran with Ahmad Muzani, the Speaker of Indonesia's People's Consultative Assembly. According to Iran's state television, Ghalibaf announced that Tehran would respond decisively if the US violated the agreement made with Iran.
Ghalibaf stated that Iran will not give up self-defense and will not bow to any pressure. Stressing that negotiations with the US must be conducted from a position of "readiness for war," Ghalibaf said, "The US, Israel, and NATO thought they could force Iran to surrender in a matter of days during the recent war, but developments proved otherwise."
Indicating that Iran does not trust the US, Ghalibaf said he also conveyed this stance to US Vice President James David Vance during the negotiations. "Iran will not give up defending its territory and will resolutely stand against the US if it violates its commitments," Ghalibaf said, adding that ending the war is a priority for all countries but "everyone must know that this war will never end with Iran's surrender."
Military tension in the region
US forces recently carried out military strikes on Iran in retaliation for Iran's targeting of ships in the Strait of Hormuz, which is critical to global energy supply. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Thursday that it struck around 90 military sites in Iran. Targets included air defense systems, missile and drone storage areas, naval capabilities, and logistical infrastructure along the Iranian coast.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards, for their part, reported targeting US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, warning that they could expand the scope of their operations if US attacks continue.
Tensions in the Persian Gulf have been escalating since the war launched by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28. Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran on June 18, negotiations are underway under Qatari and Pakistani mediation to reach a final agreement.
For his part, Ahmad Muzani, Speaker of Indonesia's People's Consultative Assembly, welcomed efforts to end the war between Iran and the US. Muzani stated that Ghalibaf's initiatives could contribute to peace. The meeting highlighted the need to develop bilateral relations, especially in the economic field.
