Iran’s Mehr News Agency said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ ground forces carried out a drone attack targeting the headquarters of Komala, an Iranian Kurdish opposition group, in the Palisan area of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, near the border with Iran.
Iranian media described the targeted group as “terrorist and separatist.” No reports of casualties had emerged initially, and the Revolutionary Guard had not officially claimed responsibility at the time.
Local accounts circulated nighttime footage they said showed the moment of the attack.
Repeated attacks since February
On October 18, two drones launched from Iran targeted a Komala base in Palisan, Erbil province, without causing injuries, according to the Kurdish Rudaw Network.
Since the war in the Middle East broke out in February, Iran has targeted camps and headquarters belonging to Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region. The deadliest of these attacks took place on July 17 near Sulaymaniyah, when nine Komala members were killed. Tehran accuses the groups of receiving support from Israel.
