Iran’s position toward the United States and the conditions put forward for reopening the Strait of Hormuz were discussed during the meeting in Tehran. Iranian official Rizayi met with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Rizayi said they did not trust Washington and argued that the United States had repeatedly betrayed diplomacy and negotiations. He said that if the United States took an adverse step against Iran, they would deliver a “response that will go down in history” targeting the country’s military and economic interests.
Practical steps required to reopen the Strait of Hormuz
Rizayi said the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz depended on the United States taking practical steps to meet Iran’s conditions.
Al Thani said they had never hesitated to cooperate with Iran. Qatar’s prime minister and foreign minister said they were always ready to cooperate with Tehran, acting with a sense of responsibility in response to the sensitive conditions in the region.
