The plan for managing the Strait of Hormuz, along with bills aimed at combating foreign influence and international crimes, will be on the agenda of the Iranian parliament’s virtual session on Sunday.
Members of the parliament’s National Security Committee will review the Smart Management Plan prepared for the strait. Lawmakers will also work on a separate bill aimed at combating international crimes.
Agreement on Iran-Oman route
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced that Iran and Oman had reached an agreement on a map showing maritime shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
The technical negotiations, which continued for weeks, are being conducted within the framework of a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States. The agreement envisages that Tehran and Muscat will establish a new navigation arrangement in the strait.
As Iran and Oman continue discussions on the routes, Tehran says any decision to reopen the strategic waterway depends on the United States fulfilling its obligations under the agreement.
