Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian delivered a speech on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, addressing the war with the United States, regional tensions and the future of the diplomatic process.
During his speech, Pezeshkian held up photos before representatives of UN member states, including photos of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and children whom Tehran said were killed during the first days of the war.
Iranian President Pezeshkian said that his country and its people had been “victims of terrorism,” criticizing the United States and Israel over military operations against Iran.

Pezeshkian stressed that Iran would not surrender in the war with the United States, while emphasizing that Tehran still believed diplomacy was a way to end the conflict.

The Iranian president also addressed his country’s nuclear program, affirming Tehran’s right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and rejecting accusations that it was seeking to acquire a nuclear weapon.

Pezeshkian: Diplomacy remains possible
Pezeshkian’s speech came a day after US President Donald Trump addressed the General Assembly, speaking about the war with Iran and the possibility of reaching an agreement between the two sides.
Pezeshkian also discussed tensions related to the Strait of Hormuz, saying that continued military deployments and the expansion of the war would not lead to peace.
The Iranian president’s speech came as relations between Tehran and Washington saw simultaneous diplomatic activity amid continuing military and political tensions between the two sides.
