Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian discussed regional security and peace efforts in a phone call with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday evening. Pezeshkian said that certain international actors, particularly the Israeli regime and the United States, are actively working to sabotage existing peace initiatives.
The Iranian president said these countries have deviated from their previous commitments and are undermining regional stability. He stressed that the current situation demands strict adherence to diplomatic channels to solidify ceasefires and prevent crises from expanding.
Pezeshkian stated that Iran has always acted in good faith and honored its obligations, warning that for any agreement to be successful and lasting, mutual respect and practical compliance with commitments are indispensable. He added that Iran's foreign policy decisions and negotiations are conducted under the guidance of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, within the framework of the state's macro policies.
Appreciating Pakistan's constructive role in diplomatic efforts, Pezeshkian said he valued the steps taken by Prime Minister Sharif and Army Commander General Asim Munir to reduce tensions and promote peaceful initiatives.
The Iranian president emphasized that the strategic relationship between Tehran and Islamabad is based on shared history, religion and culture. He expressed satisfaction with Pakistan's participation in the funeral and memorial ceremonies with a high-level delegation, saying it was proof of lasting solidarity between the two countries.
Pezeshkian also called for accelerating the implementation of existing economic agreements. He urged relevant institutions to take action to enhance cooperation in trade, agriculture, transportation and industry.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, for his part, reiterated the fraternal bond between the two nations. He described his country's participation in the recent memorial ceremonies as a fundamental duty. Expressing deep concern over the potential for renewed escalation in the region, Sharif stressed the urgency of restraint and persistent political efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire.
Sharif stated that Pakistan is fully prepared to continue its role in advancing diplomatic processes and reducing tensions, including initiatives led by Qatar. Underscoring Iran's critical position in regional equations, he expressed confidence that the Tehran administration would navigate the current challenges with wisdom and prudence.
The call concluded with both sides reiterating their determination to maintain continuous political consultation and rigorously follow up on the implementation of bilateral economic and trade agreements.
