Israeli forces forced dozens of Palestinian families to leave their homes on Saturday in the al-Jalda and Ain Deir Bahha areas of Hebron in the southern West Bank, as part of a military operation the Israeli army said would last several days. The Associated Press reported that the evacuation affected up to 300 families.
The families were told to leave their homes for at least 10 days, while Israeli forces imposed extensive closures on roads and entrances to the city. The mayor of Hebron said the municipality was working to provide shelter for the displaced families.
Residential building demolished in Farsh al-Hawa
Israeli forces demolished a three-story residential building containing three apartments in the Farsh al-Hawa area on Friday. Residents said they were given only five minutes to collect their belongings before the demolition.
The operation followed an armed attack on an Israeli military checkpoint at the western entrance to Hebron that turned into a clash lasting more than 20 minutes. Two Israeli soldiers and the two attackers were killed.
