Bat al-Warda Hill near Beit Jinn in southern Syria was targeted by Israeli army artillery fire on Saturday. Four artillery shells were fired at the area.
The firing came about a week after Syrian and Israeli delegations held talks in Jordan aimed at reducing tensions, putting tensions along the Syrian-Israeli front back in focus. Syria's delegation at the U.S.-mediated meeting was headed by Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani.
Search for a security agreement
The meeting in Jordan was held as part of efforts to reduce tensions following an Israeli attack on a Syrian air base.
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa announced last month that the Damascus administration was working to reach a security agreement with Israel that would pave the way for a comprehensive peace. Al-Sharaa said Syria would not relinquish its rights to the occupied Golan Heights during the process.
Israel's attacks in Syria
Israel has controlled most of the Golan Heights since 1967. Before the Bashar al-Assad regime fell in late 2024, Israel frequently carried out attacks on positions in Syria that it claimed were linked to Iranian-backed forces.
Following Assad's departure, the scope of Israel's attacks in Syria expanded. In addition to weapons depots and strategic military positions, targets in different parts of the country also became the focus of the attacks.
The Israeli army recently also bombed the Abu al-Duhur Air Base in Idlib, in northwestern Syria.
