The new chief of Israel's external intelligence agency Mossad, Roman Gofman, held a series of meetings with US intelligence and administration officials in Washington. According to reports in US media, this visit two weeks ago was Gofman's first contact with the US in his new role.
A source that spoke to CNN said that Gofman, in the meetings, provided detailed intelligence on Iran's uranium enrichment activities, economic situation, and the underground nuclear facility known as 'Balta Dağı'.
According to Axios, the Mossad chief met with CIA Director John Ratcliffe and White House officials. Unnamed sources said that a military option against Iran was also put on the table in these meetings.
An Israeli source said that one of the main goals of the visit was to coordinate with the White House on nuclear deal negotiations with Iran. Before taking over as head of Mossad earlier this year, Gofman served as military secretary to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
CIA Director Ratcliffe is among those who were skeptical of the memorandum of understanding reached with Iran on June 18. Neither the CIA nor Mossad made an official statement about Gofman's Washington visit.
