The Mecca agreement’s regional security framework
Dar briefed Anand on the contents of the agreement signed by Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on August 7. He said the agreement was based on the three countries’ commitment to contributing to peace, stability and regional security.
The agreement, signed in Mecca, was signed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The text of the agreement states that the cooperation does not target any country and aims to strengthen commitments to preserving peace, stability and prosperity at the regional and global levels. The text is based on the principles of a shared understanding of security and burden-sharing.
The agreement stipulates that an armed attack against any of the three countries will be considered an attack against all of them. Supporting one another’s security, developing defense industry cooperation and enhancing military interoperability are also among the agreement’s objectives.
