Registration centers in the West Bank began operating on Saturday morning to register voters and update their information ahead of Palestine’s legislative election, planned for November 28, 2026.
Under the timetable set by the Palestinian Central Elections Commission, the process will continue until Wednesday evening, August 19. Citizens who meet the registration requirements but are not listed on the voter register were urged to register. Voters who registered previously and want to update their information were also asked to update their applications.
The election will cover three areas
The planned legislative election is expected to cover the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and Jerusalem. Citizens aged 17 and older will be eligible to register on the voter roll.
Data updates will be carried out only in the West Bank. Citizens living in the Gaza Strip will be considered automatically registered on the basis of Palestinian population records.
First legislative election since 2006
The election planned for November 28, 2026, will be Palestine’s first legislative election since 2006. The election timetable set after years of Palestinian internal division and the Gaza war is seen as a major test for restructuring institutions and renewing their legitimacy.
Husam Badran, a member of Hamas’ Political Bureau, said on Wednesday that the movement would participate in the election with the broadest possible national coalition.
Applications will open on September 26
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas set the date of the legislative election as November 28, 2026, in a decree issued on July 9. The date of the presidential election is expected to be announced later, with the vote planned for the first quarter of 2027.
The Central Elections Commission’s timetable sets September 26 to October 7 as the period for candidate applications. The election campaign will begin on November 6, while general voting will take place on November 28.
