Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the country’s economic problems had become far more severe than in the past after the war with the United States and Israel.
Assessing the economic situation at a meeting, Pezeshkian said rising prices were driven by higher costs. He said imported goods were now transported along longer and different routes, adding that this change had increased their final prices.
Oil sales and revenues declined
Pezeshkian said the decline in state revenues had reduced the country’s economic resources. The Iranian president said oil sales had fallen and described the decline in revenues as follows:
Our revenues have also declined. We used to sell oil, but now we cannot.
Damage to industrial facilities affected the economy
Pezeshkian said damage to industrial facilities in the country had further worsened the economic situation, adding that many factories had been targeted and destroyed.
Pezeshkian said this situation had also affected tax revenues. He said the government could no longer collect taxes from factories and instead had to allocate resources to enable businesses to continue operating.
Pezeshkian said the existing economic problems had multiplied many times over, while state revenues had declined.
