A Qatari LNG carrier passed through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the new rules Iran has put in place. After receiving permission from Iranian authorities, the ship followed the designated route, crossed the strait smoothly, and proceeded to international waters.
About three weeks ago, Iran accused the United States of breaching a prior agreement and declared that passage through the Strait of Hormuz would require its consent. The announcement was viewed as a step to increase Iran's control over regional maritime traffic.
The Qatari LNG vessel's use of this route became the first Qatari LNG shipment through the strategic waterway since Iran announced the restrictions. No incident occurred during the passage.
