UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed and Qatar’s Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman spoke by phone on Sunday as regional developments remained on the agenda.
According to a statement from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministers exchanged views on the deep-rooted fraternal ties between the two countries. They also discussed regional developments.
The ministry’s statement provided no further details about the phone call.
Tensions along the Saudi Arabia-Yemen front
The phone call took place as military tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen continued from last July onward. As part of these tensions, attacks targeting civil aviation facilities and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia were carried out.
Regional tensions also continued following problems related to the implementation of the Islamabad Accord signed by the United States and Iran on June 17, 2026.
The accord called for an end to the military operations that began at the end of February and arrangements to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic. Disputes over maritime transport in the strait disrupted the implementation process, and fighting resumed in July.
