Syria’s Foreign Ministry condemned Israeli airstrikes targeting the Abu al-Duhur Military Airbase in the eastern countryside of Idlib province in the country’s north.
In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry described the attack as a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The statement characterized the attack as an unjustified act and a dangerous escalation threatening security and stability in the region.
The ministry said an Israeli aircraft carried out eight airstrikes on the airbase’s runway early Tuesday. The strikes caused material damage to the base’s infrastructure, but there were no casualties.
Syria’s Foreign Ministry said the Israeli attacks had continued since December 8, 2024. The ministry argued that the strikes, carried out while Syria was exercising restraint to prevent tensions and strengthen stability, aimed to undermine those efforts and push the region toward further tension and instability.
