Mudar al-Uqla, chairman of the Syrian Atomic Energy Commission, announced that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had canceled its decision concerning Syria’s nuclear file.
Al-Uqla said the outcome was achieved after Syrian authorities conducted diplomatic and technical efforts for nearly a year and a half. He described the development as a “historic achievement.”
Syria emphasizes peaceful nuclear energy
Al-Uqla said Syria had remained committed to the principles of full transparency and technical cooperation, demonstrating its adherence to international standards and the comprehensive safeguards system. He said Syria had not abandoned its right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Al-Uqla said the decision brought to an end the period of political pressure Syria had faced over its nuclear file. He argued that the decision clearly recognized internationally the goodwill and seriousness of Syria’s approach.
The chairman of the Syrian Atomic Energy Commission said Syria’s right to use advances in nuclear science for national development had also been reaffirmed.
