Stopping the bloodshed in Gaza and rebuilding the region were among the main issues discussed at a summit held in New York on Tuesday. U.S. President Donald Trump said participating countries were ready to make significant contributions to the process.
The summit was attended by the leaders of Egypt, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Lebanon and Iraq, as well as President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In his remarks, Trump described Erdoğan as “a tough and wonderful man” and said, “Don’t mess with him.”
Trump recalled that they had also met with regional countries on the sidelines of last year’s United Nations General Assembly meetings. He said those discussions addressed steps that could be taken to end the war in Gaza and resolve the crisis in the region.
Turning to Erdoğan during his remarks, Trump said that his “friend” from Türkiye was also at the meeting.
Trump said the leaders attending the summit were making significant efforts to stop the bloodshed in Gaza and noted that the countries were ready to make substantial contributions to Gaza’s reconstruction.
