The Turkish Red Crescent has launched a prosthetics and orthotics project aimed at helping people in Gaza who have lost limbs regain their mobility. Under the project, which is being carried out in coordination with hospitals and rehabilitation centers, the first prosthesis was fitted for 24-year-old Adi Abu Warda.
First prosthesis fitted for Adi Abu Warda
Warda lost his right leg in an attack in 2024. After the measurement and assessment process was completed, a below-the-knee prosthesis was prepared for him and successfully fitted.
Warda said he had struggled to move independently and meet his daily needs for about a year, adding that he was happy to be able to walk again with the prosthesis. He said he had been unable to walk or manage his own affairs before receiving the prosthesis, but could now walk and meet his daily needs.
Warda thanked the Turkish Red Crescent and those who contributed to the project.
Humanitarian aid efforts continue in Gaza
In addition to supporting people who have lost limbs, the Turkish Red Crescent continues to provide water and hot meals in Gaza. As temperatures rise and access to clean water becomes more difficult, 100 tons of clean water are distributed in the region every day.
Hot meals continue to be prepared without interruption at the organization’s soup kitchen in Gaza. Approximately 30,000 people receive hot meals every day as part of the effort.
Increase in limb loss among children reported
The Turkish Red Crescent said that since October 7, 2023, thousands of people in Gaza had suffered severe injuries resulting in limb loss because of attacks on the territory. It said cases of limb loss had increased significantly, particularly among children.
Toll attributed to Palestinian sources
According to the statement, Palestinian sources reported that more than 73,000 people had been killed, 174,000 injured and approximately 90 percent of the infrastructure damaged in Israel’s war on Gaza, conducted with U.S. support since October 8, 2023.
The statement said that a ceasefire had been in effect since October 10, 2025, but that 1,260 Palestinians had been killed and 4,154 injured as a result of ceasefire violations.
