Young Turkish swimmer Kerhan Yılmaz won the bronze medal in the men’s 200-meter individual medley final at the Dakar 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games, hosted by Senegal’s capital.
With this achievement, Türkiye’s medal tally at the Games rose to two, following the gold medal won by judoka Sima Nur Yüksel. The Turkish Embassy in Dakar said Yılmaz had made history as the first Turkish swimmer to win a medal in the history of the Youth Olympic Games.
Congratulations from the embassy
The embassy said the swimmer had represented his country “successfully” at the Games and described the bronze medal as “an important achievement,” congratulating him “from the bottom of its heart” and wishing him continued success.

The photographs showed Yılmaz wearing the Turkish team uniform, holding his bronze medal and a doll depicting the Games’ mascot. He was also pictured with members of the Turkish delegation, who were raising the Turkish flag in front of the entrance to the Aquatics Center.
Young talent in Turkish swimming
Yılmaz is 17 and trains at Yeşilova Spor Club alongside his twin brother, Kadirhan Yılmaz, who is also an international swimmer. He has previously broken Turkish records in the 50-meter freestyle, 50-meter butterfly and 100-meter butterfly in different age categories, according to Anadolu Agency.
The Games, the first Olympic event hosted by the African continent, continue through November 13.
