The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) distributed essential offshore fishing equipment to fishing families living in villages in the Indus River Delta in Pakistan’s Sindh province, as part of a project implemented in cooperation with the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF).
According to the agency, 85 families benefited from the project. The equipment included 19 boat engines, 15 boxes for long-term fish storage, 230 fishing nets of various sizes and 150 ropes for pulling the nets, as well as 25 first-aid kits, 50 hand-held lamps, 50 coolers for drinking water and 20 water containers.
“Development ambassadors” among fishermen
Footage prepared by TİKA’s Program Coordination Office in Karachi shows the distribution taking place under a large tent bearing a project banner. Fishermen received the equipment from young people wearing vests belonging to the agency’s “Development Ambassadors” program, while Turkish and Pakistani flags and balloons were distributed to village children.
The agency said it continues to stand by “friendly and brotherly” Pakistan through projects that support production and contribute to local development. It added that the assistance aims to increase the productivity of fishermen who depend on fishing for their livelihoods and to strengthen their sources of income.

Fishing is the main source of income for many coastal villages in the Indus Delta, where the river flows into the Arabian Sea.
