Türkiye’s embassy in the Somali capital Mogadishu bid farewell to members of the Turkish Police Special Operations Department who had completed their mission in Somalia and returned to Türkiye. The embassy described the team members as “heroes,” praising them for carrying out their duties “with dedication, courage and great sacrifice.”
Training Somali special forces
The embassy said the Turkish police officers contributed to Somalia’s security through training activities for special forces units of the Somali police known as Haramcad. They also provided strong support for the embassy’s work during their time there.
It added that the team had “earned an exceptional place in people’s hearts,” wishing its members success in their professional lives and open paths and good fortune.
Commemorative photo outside the embassy
The photo released by the embassy showed the team members in camouflage field uniforms standing on the steps at the entrance to the embassy building, alongside an embassy official in a formal suit. The emblem of the Republic of Türkiye was visible on the building’s facade.

Türkiye is one of Somalia’s leading partners in security capacity-building, having trained members of the Somali army and police for years. The embassy announced one day earlier that a new Turkish naval attaché had joined its staff in Mogadishu.
