Türkiye and Libya plan to hold a business and investment forum alongside the first meeting of the Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETCO), bringing together businesspeople from both countries, Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat announced after meeting Suhail Abdul Muttalib Bou Shiha, Libya’s minister of economy and trade in the Government of National Unity, in Istanbul.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 42nd Ministerial Meeting of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC).

$5 billion target
Bolat described Libya as a “friendly and brotherly” country with deep-rooted historical ties to Türkiye spanning more than 500 years, emphasizing that both sides had renewed their commitment to reaching a bilateral trade volume of $5 billion.
The ministers also discussed progress in resolving problems faced by Turkish contracting companies operating in Libya, the first country where these companies carried out projects outside Türkiye. Bolat also reaffirmed that work would continue to develop the legal framework for trade and investment between the two countries.
