The Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu, the Somali capital, announced Sunday that Marine Corps Staff Lieutenant Colonel Fatih Mehmet Ünal had joined its staff as Türkiye’s naval attaché in Mogadishu, expressing its pleasure at welcoming him to the embassy.
The embassy said the Turkish Naval Forces continued to strongly support bilateral relations between Türkiye and Somalia, efforts to restructure the Somali Naval Forces Command, and maritime security, training and capacity-building activities.
Reception at the embassy entrance

Photos released by the embassy showed the new naval attaché in the Turkish Navy’s official white uniform at the entrance to the embassy building, where the Somali and Turkish flags were displayed. Ünal was pictured holding a commemorative plaque with an embassy official and standing beside a Turkish officer in field uniform in another photograph.

Statement in three languages
The embassy’s announcement was issued in Turkish, Somali and English. The naval attaché’s arrival at the embassy came days after the Turkish frigate Goksu celebrated Turkish Republic Day off the coast of Mogadishu.
