The US military carried out the third airstrike of the week against Iran on Sunday morning. US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that approximately 140 military targets were hit in the strike.
The strike was carried out in response to Iran's actions against commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM emphasized that the operation, which involved fighter jets carrying highly precise munitions, was carried out on the orders of President Donald Trump.

Destroyed military facilities
The targets hit included missile and drone storage areas, military arsenals, communication systems, coastal observation points, and naval facilities. In total, more than 300 targets were reported destroyed during the three nights of operations.
It was stated that US forces have provided safe escort to more than 800 commercial ships and approximately 400 million barrels of crude oil in the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of May. The main objective of the operation was to weaken Iran's attack capability in this critical waterway.
Three separate strikes in a week
The US military had previously carried out strikes against Iran on July 7 and 8. The justification for those strikes was also claims that Iran had targeted commercial ships.
