The Yellow Vest movement held new protests in France against the rising cost of living in Paris, Lyon, Rennes, Marseille and Toulouse, with support from trade unions and students who also protested government policies on education and the economy.
Keffiyehs and Palestinian flags
Many participants in the Paris march wore keffiyehs around their shoulders and carried Palestinian flags in solidarity with Gaza's residents. Banners read “Fund schools, not genocide” and “We want to live,” while protesters also voiced their opposition to rising racism in the country.

Police intervention
Police used tear gas to disperse protesters in Paris at Porte de Charenton, where the march ended, as well as in Rennes, Lyon and Marseille. In Toulouse, officers used water cannons.
The October 17 protests saw violence that damaged more than 3,000 shops. Since the protests began, more than 1,000 people have been injured and around 2,000 have been detained.
