In Yemen's governorates, where fighting has intensified again in recent weeks, the army announced that it had conducted 181 operations within 24 hours against Houthi positions and military targets.
Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman Staff Colonel Majid Abdullah al-Nuzayli said the operations covered different fronts in the Taiz, Marib, Abyan, Al Dhale'e and Hudaydah governorates. Al-Nuzayli said the attacks involved drones, artillery units and rocket launchers, targeting military positions along the front lines, sources of fire and capabilities used in attacks.
Yemeni army's operational toll
Al-Nuzayli said the targets were hit directly and that dozens of Houthis were killed or wounded. The army spokesman also said dozens of military vehicles and pieces of equipment, as well as several weapons depots and combat vehicles, were destroyed.
The Yemeni army said the operations were conducted against elements posing a threat to the army and civilians along the contact lines. Al-Nuzayli said the Yemeni Armed Forces had the capacity to reach and neutralize the sources of threats, adding that the troops operated within the rules of engagement and international humanitarian law and that the necessary measures had been taken to protect civilians.
Accusations against the Houthis and a call for caution
Al-Nuzayli said the operations were carried out after repeated Houthi attacks targeting civilians, civilian structures, economic facilities, ports and positions belonging to the Yemeni army.
The army spokesman urged citizens to stay away from Houthi military positions and gathering areas, avoid approaching those locations and refrain from joining the group's ranks.
The Houthis, meanwhile, announced that four of their officers had been killed during the ongoing military tensions. A brigadier general was among those killed, they said.
Ongoing conflict and crisis in Yemen
Fighting between the sides has intensified again in recent weeks in governorates including Marib, Al Jawf, Al Dhale'e and Taiz. Although a ceasefire has been in place in Yemen since April 2022, the country faces a severe humanitarian and economic crisis caused by the war that began around 12 years ago and the continuing tensions.
The Houthis have controlled parts of Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa, as well as some cities and governorates since September 21, 2014.
