Yemen’s government condemned Houthi missile and unmanned aerial vehicle attacks targeting the Saudi Arabian cities of Khamis Mushait, Abha and Taif.
Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks on Monday injured 13 civilians and damaged seven homes and two vehicles. The ministry said the injuries were minor to moderate.
Yemen declares support for Saudi Arabia
The ministry described the attacks as a clear violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and said they threatened the country’s security and stability. In its statement, the Yemeni government accused the Houthis of deliberately targeting civilians and seeking to escalate regional tensions.
The Yemeni government also said it supported Saudi Arabia’s right to take necessary measures under international law to protect its citizens, residents, territory and facilities.
Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also rejected the use of Yemeni territory as a launchpad for attacks on neighboring countries. The ministry called on the international community to take a firm stance against Houthi attacks, restrict the group’s sources of funding and weapons, and support the Yemeni government in restoring state institutions.
Attacks took place amid mutual accusations
The Saudi-led coalition said on Tuesday that 13 civilians were injured and seven homes and two vehicles were damaged in ballistic missile and unmanned aerial vehicle attacks targeting Khamis Mushait, Abha and Taif.
The attacks took place as tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis were rising. The Houthis claimed on Monday that they had launched a large-scale attack on King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait using dozens of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Houthis also accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out hundreds of airstrikes on Yemen in recent days.
