The Houthis, who announced that a fighter jet had been targeted with a surface-to-air missile over Yemen's northern Saada province, claimed that the aircraft had been directly hit and was at risk of crashing.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the targeted aircraft was a Saudi Typhoon fighter jet. Saree said the aircraft had taken off from Taif Air Base in the west.
Saudi authorities did not immediately comment on the claims.
Riyadh airport also targeted
The Houthis earlier the same day claimed that they had targeted King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh with a ballistic missile.

The group also claimed that the airport had been directly hit. Saudi authorities did not immediately respond to that statement either.
Yemen's capital, Sanaa, was also targeted in airstrikes. Major General Turki al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Arab Coalition, announced that a drone had been detected and destroyed in Saudi Arabia's eastern region.
Claims of attacks on Saudi airports
Between October 5 and 11, 10 attacks were carried out against five airports in Saudi Arabia, killing 20 people and injuring hundreds.

The attacks caused material damage and disrupted air traffic.
Military tensions ongoing since July
Military tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis have continued since July. During this period, energy infrastructure as well as civil aviation facilities were targeted.
Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting the Yemeni government since March 2015. The Houthis have controlled the capital Sanaa and several provinces in Yemen since September 2014.
