Yemen’s National Resistance forces, affiliated with the country’s government, announced clashes with the Houthis south of Hodeidah province.
The clashes began after an attempt by the Houthis to approach Mount Debbas. The 13th Infantry Brigade of the First Division of the National Resistance forces also took part in the clashes in the area.
Clashes south of Hodeidah
The military activity in western Yemen came amid rising tensions between government forces and the Houthis. Ballistic missile and drone attacks also took place in the area alongside the clashes.
Clashes between government forces and the Houthis have intensified again since the beginning of July in various areas, including the provinces of Marib, Al Jawf, Al Dhale’e and Taiz.
Background to Yemen’s war
In the Yemen war, which began about 12 years ago, the Houthis have controlled numerous provinces and cities, including the capital Sanaa, since September 21, 2014. The country had experienced a period of relative calm since April 2022.
A Saudi Arabia-led coalition supports Yemen’s government forces, while there are accusations that Iran provides support to the Houthis. The Houthis also announced in July that they would impose a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia.
