Calling on allies to support an end to attacks on energy and food infrastructure in Ukraine, Zelenskyy proposed reaching an agreement with Russia on the issue. Zelenskyy said Russia continued to target food, energy and other critical infrastructure.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine was not convinced that Moscow would comply with any agreement, but declared that Kyiv was ready to halt its own attacks if Russia demonstrated a genuine willingness not to attack electricity, energy facilities, critical infrastructure and food shipments.
Referring to parliamentary elections reportedly scheduled to be held in Russia on September 18, Zelenskyy argued that even if an agreement were reached, it should not serve to resolve fuel supply problems in the country during the election process.
Stating that the war must end, Zelenskyy said a step to reduce tensions over critical infrastructure could be the first step toward peace and expressed expectations that his partners would take concrete steps.
Trump had said attacks on energy targets would stop
U.S. President Donald Trump had previously said that Ukraine and Russia would not strike each other’s energy targets. Trump said the two sides had agreed to halt attacks on energy targets.
Trump also said that the main reason for the global rise in diesel prices was not Iran but, to a large extent, the Russia-Ukraine War.
