A powerful blast struck a weapons depot in the Saraqib area east of Idlib city in northwestern Syria on Monday evening. Video footage showed a huge fireball rising into the sky over the area.
Shafaq News Agency reported that the first blast was followed by successive explosions and ammunition stored in the depot flying into the air. No information has emerged so far about deaths or injuries, and the Syrian authorities have not issued a statement on the cause of the explosion.
Idlib province has witnessed several explosions at ammunition depots and sites containing remnants of war in recent months. The most notable was an explosion at a temporary weapons storage site near Sarmada on September 9, which killed 14 people.
