Ras Al Khaimah’s Public Services Department announced Saturday that all beaches within the emirate’s borders would be closed until further notice, without specifying the reason for the decision or when they would reopen.
The decision came a day after beaches and coastal areas in the emirate of Umm Al Quwain were temporarily closed following an oil spill from a tanker off the UAE coast, while Sharjah authorities temporarily closed Al Hamriyah Beach. Reuters reported that Ras Al Khaimah had closed its beaches as neighboring emirates dealt with the oil spill.
Containment efforts continue

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment is continuing technical surveying and remediation work to contain the spill and limit its environmental impact. It urged fishermen and sea users to stay away from the affected areas. The ministry said odors noticed by residents in Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain posed no health risk.
The source and scale of the spill remain unclear, amid growing concerns about maritime safety in the Gulf in recent weeks.
