Vincent Kompany’s duties at Bayern Munich have been temporarily suspended because of his health. The German club said the 40-year-old Belgian manager fainted while watching the reserve team’s training session on Friday and was taken to hospital.
Kompany is due to undergo comprehensive medical examinations in hospital and remain under observation throughout his treatment. No timetable has been given for his return, while the coaching staff are expected to oversee training sessions and matches until a further announcement.
Bayern management promises medical support
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl said Kompany’s health was the club’s priority. Eberl said they would provide the Belgian manager with the medical support and time he needed to recover.
He missed the press conference before the Arsenal match
Kompany recently had a viral infection, missed some training sessions and was absent from the press conference before the match against Arsenal. The manager returned to the touchline for Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

The Belgian manager had acknowledged that he ignored the warning signs his body was giving him during his illness. The cause of Friday’s fainting and the date of Kompany’s return to work have not been announced.
Bayern Munich will visit Freiburg on Sunday
Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich are scheduled to face Freiburg away on Sunday. The team is expected to be managed by the coaching staff in that match.
