Israeli Minister Ben-Gvir posted footage on his X account of his visit to a cell in an Israeli prison housing Palestinian women detainees.
In the footage, a Palestinian woman detainee describes the prison conditions as extremely poor and says they are being deprived of basic personal necessities. She says they have been unable to bathe for three days, their clothes are not clean and the conditions are very bad.
Ben-Gvir uses mocking language as he tells the detainees that their good days in prison are over. Responding to the detainee's request for the conditions to be improved, he says he is not obliged to help her.
He had also insulted a detainee during an earlier visit
After taking office as national security minister, Ben-Gvir visited Israeli prisons holding Palestinian detainees. During one of his earlier visits, he told a woman detainee who called for the conditions to be improved, “This is not a hotel.”
Palestinian and international human rights organizations report that more than 9,500 Palestinians, including 350 children and 94 women, are being held in Israeli prisons.
The same organizations say that many detainees are subjected to severe conditions, including hunger, torture and medical neglect, and that dozens of Palestinians have died as a result of ill-treatment.
