A mosque visit by students from California’s Palo Alto High School last fall as part of the Social Justice Program became the subject of a lawsuit following allegations raised by some parents and former students.
The plaintiffs alleged that students were given copies of the Quran during the visit and that female students were encouraged to wear headscarves. Some parents and former students also claimed that Islam was presented during the visit in connection with social justice.
The lawsuit also alleges that photographs taken during the visit were posted online without obtaining permission from the students’ families.
A group consisting of two Jewish parents, three former Jewish students, and Hindu and Zoroastrian parents filed the lawsuit against the school district and Palo Alto High School Principal Brent Kline.
