Speaking during a parliamentary session on Sunday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said any new attack targeting his country’s interests or security would draw a faster, heavier and more painful response.
Qalibaf argued that the era of “proportional responses” had ended, warning that new attacks would have more severe consequences if the United States failed to understand this change.
The Iranian official claimed that Iran’s latest missile and drone operations against US bases had put pressure on Washington and argued that the operations were only the beginning. Qalibaf also accused US officials of using artificial intelligence to produce images and videos depicting developments on the front.
Agreement and mutual accusations along the Iran-US front
Clashes between Iran and the United States began after the US and Israel carried out attacks against Iran in February. The government in Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks on US targets in the region.
In June, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding brokered by Pakistan and Qatar that provided for ending the clashes, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and addressing economic restrictions.
However, Iran and the United States accused each other of failing to implement the commitments under the agreement. Military tensions continued alongside disputes over sanctions and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
During the clashes, Iran carried out multiple missile and drone attacks on US military facilities in the region. Washington also continued its military operations against Iranian targets.
