Iranian state media, including Press TV and the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, aired footage it said showed an underground facility belonging to the Iranian army for producing drones. The footage showed workers assembling drone airframes and long rows of drones lined up inside large halls, without disclosing the facility’s location or when the footage was filmed.
The full clip aired by Iranian media also included footage of drone launches and aerial images of military sites in the region, including the U.S. Arifjan base in Kuwait.
Messages amid heightened tensions
The footage came as tensions escalated between Iran on one side and the United States and Israel on the other. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that he would not seek a green light from U.S. President Donald Trump to strike Iran, while Iranian officials have said U.S. assets in the region could be targets if war breaks out.
In previous years, Tehran has displayed underground drone and missile bases, including a base in the Zagros Mountains unveiled in 2022 that was said to house about 100 drones.
