Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced on Friday, November 6, that its air defenses had intercepted and destroyed a U.S. MQ-1 drone over Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. “Minutes ago, the 16th U.S. MQ-1 drone was intercepted and destroyed over Qeshm Island by a new and advanced air defense system belonging to the Revolutionary Guard and operating within the country's integrated air defense network,” the Guard's media office said in a statement.
The statement said the downed aircraft was an MQ-1 reconnaissance and attack drone operated by the U.S. military. Neither the U.S. Department of Defense nor U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed the announcement.

The Revolutionary Guard published an infographic showing the number of “advanced” U.S. drones it says it destroyed during the war, listing 16 MQ-1 aircraft and 56 MQ-9 Reapers.
A second announcement within days
On Wednesday, the Revolutionary Guard announced that it had downed another drone of the same type over Qeshm, saying it was the 15th since hostilities began in late February, Tasnim agency reported. Press TV quoted the Guard as saying that Iranian forces had downed a total of 68 U.S.-made MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper drones since the conflict began.
The Revolutionary Guard also announced this week that, using electronic warfare systems, it had taken control of several U.S. MQM-170 reconnaissance drones over Qeshm Island, Iran's largest island in the Gulf, which overlooks commercial shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz.
