Israeli forces detained the Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, at Al-Aqsa Mosque after Friday prayers. The Jerusalem Governorate, affiliated with the Palestinian Authority, said that Al-Aqsa preacher Hussein was taken into custody after the prayer.
Sheikh Muhammad Hussein was released shortly after being detained by Israeli police. However, Israeli authorities imposed a one-week ban on him visiting Al-Aqsa Mosque, one of the holiest sites in Islam.
Israeli officials did not provide any reason for the detention. In recent years, Israel has taken many similar measures against Al-Aqsa preachers.
