Jordan is organizing a high-level ministerial meeting to increase international pressure against Israel's illegal policies and attacks on holy sites in occupied Jerusalem. According to a statement from Jordan's Foreign Ministry on Monday, the meeting on Wednesday will bring together members of the Arab Ministerial Committee tasked with taking international action against Israel's illegal practices in Jerusalem.
Alongside Jordan, the meeting will include Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Iraq, Palestine, Qatar, Egypt, Morocco, and the Arab League Secretary-General. The foreign ministers of Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey and Malaysia will also attend.
Jerusalem's identity and holy sites on the agenda
In its statement, Jordan's Foreign Ministry said participants will discuss "developing a common stance regarding the situation of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and against the illegal Israeli escalatory actions targeting the city's identity and sanctities."
Jordan's diplomatic initiative is seen as part of efforts to increase international and Islamic pressure to halt ongoing Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem and provide necessary protection to Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Meanwhile, the Jerusalem Governorate of Palestine announced on Sunday that in July, three Palestinians were killed, 15 injured, and 115 detained as a result of Israeli violations. The statement also reported that 9,848 settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque during the same month.
Palestinians argue that Israel is trying to Judaize East Jerusalem and erase its Arab-Islamic identity, and they view the city as the capital of their desired state.
