Kosovo signed an agreement to join the international stabilization force planned for the Gaza Strip. Representatives of Kosovo, the International Peace Council and officials from the stabilization force attended the signing ceremony in Pristina.
The International Peace Council announced that Kosovo would support the 20-point peace plan proposed for implementation in Gaza. According to the announcement, Kosovo will contribute to the mission of the planned stabilization force. However, the number of personnel Kosovo will send and the date the force will be deployed to Gaza were not disclosed.
The stabilization force’s role in Gaza
The international force is planned to operate in the area between Israel and the Palestinian-controlled territories. It is expected to ensure the security of humanitarian aid operations and support the gradual disarmament of weapons.
Nikolay Mladenov, the International Peace Council’s high representative, said the stabilization force would not govern Gaza or assume responsibility for the territory’s security. Gaza’s police and civil administration will remain under the responsibility of the national committee planned to govern the territory.
The force is intended to reduce conflict and tensions during the transition period and support stability until Palestinian institutions assume responsibility on the ground.
The plan prepared for Gaza
U.S. President Donald Trump announced his 20-point plan for Gaza on September 29, 2025. The plan includes ending the war, exchanging Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, increasing the flow of humanitarian aid and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces.
The withdrawal of Israeli forces will be linked to the disarmament of armed groups and the deployment of a temporary international stabilization force to Gaza. Under the plan, Gaza is expected to be governed temporarily by a committee of Palestinian technocrats, reconstruction efforts will be carried out and Hamas will not be included in the administration.
The International Peace Council announced that an agreement had been reached on July 31, 2026, on a road map for the subsequent phases of the ceasefire. Hamas later announced that it accepted the road map and called for Israel to be compelled to comply with the plan.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza
More than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed, more than 174,000 people have been injured and 90 percent of the infrastructure has been destroyed in the war in Gaza, which has continued since October 8, 2023.
