Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, received Ibrahim Kalin, head of Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MİT), in Abu Dhabi. The meeting was attended by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser, and Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for National Security.
The Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that the two sides reviewed bilateral relations between the UAE and Türkiye and ways to strengthen and develop them across various fields in a manner that serves the two countries’ mutual interests. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues and developments of mutual interest, as well as efforts to consolidate stability and support development efforts in the region.
Ankara says strategic partnership strengthens regional security
Türkiye’s ambassador to the UAE, Lutfullah Goktas, said the meeting was held on Monday and addressed joint efforts to strengthen regional security and stability. He added: “We believe that our strategic partnership with the UAE will make a serious contribution to consolidating security and peace in the region.”
The visit comes amid growing rapprochement between Ankara and Abu Dhabi in recent years, culminating in the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the two countries in 2023. In March, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed received Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in the presence of Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed. Kalin has headed Türkiye’s intelligence service since June 2023 and plays a prominent role in sensitive regional files, including the Gaza negotiations and the Libya file.
