Iranian President Pezeshkian described the Mecca Defense Agreement signed by Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan as a positive development in terms of Muslims forming a united front.
Pezeshkian made statements on regional developments, negotiations between the United States and Iran, the Strait of Hormuz and Tehran's relations with countries in the region.
Positive view of the Mecca Defense Agreement
Responding to a question about whether the agreement targeted Iran, Pezeshkian said the initiative could serve to bring Muslims together and strengthen Islamic unity instead of fueling conflict.
Pezeshkian described the Mecca Defense Agreement as a positive and forward-looking step toward Muslim unity.

He said they did not trust Washington
Regarding the ongoing negotiations with the United States, the Iranian president said they did not trust Washington and announced that they were waiting for the U.S. response to Iran's latest proposal. Pezeshkian said it was not yet known on what basis an agreement could be reached.
Pezeshkian said Qatar and Pakistan had conveyed Iran's messages to Washington, adding that the talks were based on a memorandum of understanding signed by the two sides in June.
War condition for the Strait of Hormuz
Pezeshkian rejected holding Iran responsible for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and argued that transit routes had been closed against Iran. He described the closure of the strait as a natural reaction to the cutting off of Iran's routes.
Pezeshkian said the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened to commercial vessels if the war ended through negotiations. Describing the United States as the aggressor in the war, Pezeshkian claimed that Iran had not attacked any country for approximately two hundred years.
Call for regional security cooperation
Pezeshkian said regional security should be ensured through cooperation among the countries of the region and stated that there was no need for a regional police force. He claimed that the United States and Israel were trying to control the region's resources by using regional countries against one another.
Pezeshkian said Saudi Arabia could play a role in securing unity in the Muslim world and also addressed the clashes between the Houthis in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
Pezeshkian claimed that there was no connection between the Houthis' actions and Iran. Calling for problems to be resolved through dialogue, Pezeshkian said Muslims should not fight one another.
Emphasis on unity in Iran
Pezeshkian said Iran was experiencing an unprecedented level of unity and solidarity and stated that they were working to overcome the problems accumulated in the country.
Pezeshkian claimed that the United States and Israel were trying to prevent Iran from becoming self-sufficient and said the Iranian people would continue to hold on to life.
