Saudi Arabia has suspended plans for a $2.5 billion stadium intended as a venue for the 2034 FIFA World Cup, with construction intelligence platform MEED Projects classifying the project as “on hold” with no end date, Reuters reported. The 46,000-seat stadium was planned 350 meters above ground within The Line in Neom.

Public Investment Fund governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan said in April that The Line was no longer a priority before 2030. Saudi Arabia’s World Cup 2034 Hosting Higher Authority said “substantial delivery” of tournament construction projects was already underway.
