Türkiye’s Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek said an International Monetary Fund assessment of fiscal transparency, covering fiscal statistics, budget management, fiscal risks and accountability practices, placed Türkiye among the top countries out of about 40, including the United Kingdom, Finland, Ireland, Austria and Portugal.
He said Türkiye’s practices were assessed in 2015 as good or advanced in about half of the principles of the IMF’s Fiscal Transparency Code, noting that this proportion has now risen to two-thirds.

Şimşek described the result as a tangible outcome of an ongoing institutional transformation spanning more than 20 years, stressing that work on structural reforms to further strengthen fiscal transparency would continue.
