Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said the country's armed forces were prepared to defend Egypt and its resources against any external threat.
In a speech marking the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, Sisi said he directly and continuously monitored the Egyptian army's combat-readiness level and operational capability. He thereby provided assurances about the defensive capacity of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
State institutions and services
President Sisi said his monitoring was not limited to the military sphere. He said the effort, which covered various areas of the state, aimed to improve conditions and find solutions to problems that had accumulated over the years.
Sisi also noted that work was continuing to address difficulties and shortcomings in the services provided to citizens.
Fire at Damietta Port
Regional tensions were also in focus when the statement was made. A fire broke out on July 29 at Damietta Port on the Mediterranean coast after two gas vessels were targeted by a drone. The Egyptian government said no one was injured in the incident.
No group claimed responsibility for the incident. The authorities in Cairo said the investigation was continuing to determine the circumstances of the fire and protect national security.
The fire occurred at a time when the conflict between the United States and Iran and problems affecting maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz were prominent. There are concerns that regional developments could spread to other countries and maritime routes.
