Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, accompanied by Daraa Governor Anwar Taha al-Zouabi, visited the Daraa al-Balad neighborhood. Al-Sharaa met with several families there, and images from the visit were published on social media platforms.
The visit was al-Sharaa's second to Daraa province since he took office in January 2025.
Images published on social media platforms also showed traces of the destruction left in the city by the administration of ousted President Bashar al-Assad as al-Sharaa and the governor met with families.
Al-Sharaa's first visit to Daraa
Al-Sharaa previously visited the city in June 2025, during the first days of Eid al-Adha. At the time, he toured several neighborhoods and key sites in Daraa, including the Omari Mosque in the Daraa al-Balad neighborhood.
Daraa's place in Syria
Daraa was the city where the first demonstration against the Assad administration took place on March 18, 2011. The unrest that began in the city spread across much of the country, making it one of the starting points of the process that led to the liberation on December 8, 2024.
