Developments in the Middle East were among the main topics of Thursday's phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Trump and Sheikh Mohamed also discussed issues concerning the two countries' shared interests and ongoing efforts in the region.
Joint efforts to advance U.S.-UAE cooperation
The two leaders evaluated ways to strengthen joint efforts that would advance cooperation between the United States and the United Arab Emirates and support their shared interests.
Contacts on Iran and the regional crisis
One day before the phone call, White House representative Steve Witkoff met with UAE National Security Adviser Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss the regional crisis and the next steps concerning Iran.
Washington is pursuing a new economic pressure campaign against Tehran. Regional tensions have risen again because of U.S. attacks in Iran and Iran's retaliatory strikes against U.S. military facilities in the region, including those in the UAE.
The latest escalation began after a U.S. attack on Iran's Larak Island on Sunday ended a period of nearly one month without conflict.
