The Afghan administration condemned operations involving air and drone strikes that Pakistan said it had carried out against 10 targets on Afghan territory. Afghan administration spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said four civilians had been killed in the attacks and that an appropriate response would be given.
Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, meanwhile, claimed that the targets had been used to launch and store drones. Tarar said that some drones launched from Afghanistan had attempted to enter Pakistan on September 23 and that the attempt had been thwarted.
Tarar defended the strikes as having been carried out under Pakistan's right to self-defense. Saying that Pakistan would not tolerate attacks against it from Afghan territory, Tarar stated that every violation of Pakistan's sovereignty would receive a swift and decisive response.
Pakistan says it does not seek to escalate tensions
Calling on the Afghan administration to stop the attacks, Tarar said Pakistan had no intention of escalating tensions. Tarar said Pakistan remained committed to regional peace, dialogue and constructive cooperation, adding that this stance should not be interpreted as weakness.
Kabul condemns the attacks
Mujahid said they condemned Pakistan's attacks and that a response would be given. The Afghan administration said four civilians had been killed in the attacks.
Pakistani officials had previously announced that attacks and infiltration attempts targeting border posts from Afghanistan had been thwarted. Mujahid, however, said no such attack had taken place.
